As Salamu Alikum and hi everyone!
I thought to myself the other day trying on some flip flops, which I am still not sure if I would need them ( I didn’t get them by the way), that one of the greatest dilemmas of my teenage life is shoes. That is how I came up with this post’s title. Shoes: one of my greatest loves, but also one of my greatest dilemmas.
Now, to tell you the truth, I cannot remember when it first started. I have wide feet and I currently can fit size 11-12 US women, a European 42-44, a UK 8 and sometimes I need a 9. Golly, it took me awhile to get the hang of all those numbers and to remember which sizing I would need to use. It is very hard in the UAE to find myself shoes that fit comfortably. It was very hard when I couldn’t fit into a pair of shoes and mostly because my feet were too wide. Then it became that my feet were too wide and too long. I couldn’t wear a lot of those cute shoes I saw in the stores.
It was very strange to me, here I was a 12 year old girl, wearing shoes that a woman can fit. I cannot remember if any kids at school made said things or fun of me because of my feet, but they did because I was tall. Yep, I’m one of those girls; Tall, with big feet and curly hair. Perhaps I will write a post about being that kind of girl here.
Alhamdulillah Payless came to the UAE and that helped. I got some shoes from there but I could only fit some that were in my size, due to the wideness, or rather lack of wideness in the majority of them. But then came the day I found I cannot fit them anymore. The highest they go here is 11 and well, to be truthful, I never tired those on because they are all sneakers. I don't really want to wear sneakers all the time. From size 9 and down, they are all those cute flats, heels, wedges, the whole lot. But alhamdulillah my mother found this UK store called Evans that had very cute shoes and I CAN FIT THEM ALL!! I just LOVE that store. I only buy shoes from there now. There is this store called Layne Bryant one of my aunt’s found that has my size and I have gotten several shoes from there. I mostly wear flats, which I don’t think is very good for me if I go walking for a long time. I also own a pair of converse shoes that my cousin who lives here as well gave to me because they were too big for her and I wear them all the time, they’re so comfortable!
I could go on and on about shoes, and find more stories about the shoes I have owned, but perhaps that can be for another blog post someday.
Do any of you have a great dilemma with shoes? Have you ever had a hard time finding shoes at one point of your life? Did you find the store that saved you? Comment down below and tell me all about it. I’d love to know!
