As salamu alikum and hello everyone!
I know this is pretty late but I wanted to make sure I finished this post and post it today inshallah! I have made myself a hat, as well as a pillow case, which is a real learning experience that required a lot of improvising, and I have three WIPs that I’ve been working on. So let’s get to it!
I know this is pretty late but I wanted to make sure I finished this post and post it today inshallah! I have made myself a hat, as well as a pillow case, which is a real learning experience that required a lot of improvising, and I have three WIPs that I’ve been working on. So let’s get to it!
For my first pillow case, I used 1 yard of blue satin fabric, and one yard of some nice trimmings, for a standard sized pillow ( I think). I have no idea why I thought that 1 yard was enough for a pillow case. It actually JUST fit my pillow, and I haven’t washed it yet!
What I thought was going to be a really simple project turned into a brain-wreaking experience. If you want to know how I made this pillow case, do tell me. But I am warning you, DO NOT try to make a pillow case for a standard sized pillow with one yard of fabric if you are trying to make a flap to cover the other side of the pillow, like I did. That is what made it really hard to figure out. Now I need to make another pillow case, but I learned my lesson, and this time inshallah I will get more than one yard

I have been using some different yarns that I have for the past few weeks. I made this slouchy hat pictured below, using the Red Heart yarn in Monet. I used the free pattern from Gleeful Things, which is a pretty cool blog, called Sugar Cone Skully Hat, and it was pretty easy to make mashallah. I had to pin the hat down to the hat stand to keep it in place to take the pictures, it's very large! It is pretty slouchy, but my big head (hair) stretched the rim of the hat…it looks better worn than on the hat stand though.
I have a few WIPs (Work In Progress) using different kinds of yarn, all a first for me. The first is this crochet thread from a company called Soft Feather International from the Pearl Cotton No 5 line. I started following a pattern from Frank O’Randle, who has a shop on Ravelry, and it’s called Mini Rings of Change. It is a free pattern and it can be a baby blanket or a doily, and since I am using crochet thread, I am making a doily. I am just going to go as far as I can with this spool of thread inshallah. So far I have reached Round 16.
The next WIP is using Rafia yarn, and I am making a sunhat. It is a little difficult for me to use at some points because sometimes I make the stitches a little tight and sometimes its easy to crochet through the stiches. I have to say that I do like the feeling it has when crocheted, so I can’t wait to make further progress with it and inshallah be finished. Hopefully it will look wearable, inshallah. So far it looks like it might be a bit larger than it should be, but you never know, it just might be alright for my head.
The last WIP I am knitting and I am using this yarn which was given to me, so I don’t know where I can get it again. I actually don’t know what kind of yarn this is. It is from MAB and two are called Baher and one is called Sama, but they look the same to me…can anyone help me out? Do you know what kind of yarn this is? If you know anything about this yarn do comment down below, it’d be greatly appreciated!
I’m not following any kind of pattern, I just cast on – stitches and started knitting. After a few trials and errors, I figured out that it is easier for me to knit with this yarn than to crochet with it. It is so smooth to knit mashallah, and the rows knitted feel so soft! For now, it is just something that I pick up once in a while when I want a change from crocheting, and I’ll have to wait until I decide to be finished with it to decide what to do with it inshallah.
