As Salamu Alikum and konbanwa menasan!
This is the second part to the hat stand pictorial I posted today and as a special treat, I am posting TWICE in one day! All because I was procrastinating and posted really late earlier today. If you haven't read the first part, I suggest that you do if you're interested in finding out how I made this hat stand.
This is the second part to the hat stand pictorial I posted today and as a special treat, I am posting TWICE in one day! All because I was procrastinating and posted really late earlier today. If you haven't read the first part, I suggest that you do if you're interested in finding out how I made this hat stand.
In the previous post, the last step I did was cutting the fabric really short just under the yarn I tied to the ball. The next step I did was to pin some straight pins to the ball to keep the fabric where I wanted, so that when we cut the yarn off, the fabric will stay tight on the ball. I suggest that you cut on your hot glue gun before you start pinning to give it time to heat up.
Now you take the Styrofoam ball off the stand and it's time to glue. It took me awhile to figure out how I was going to do that, but what I eventually did was take a few pins off one side and put glue on that area and pinch the fabric and pull it onto the glue.
Make sure that you hold it down to keep it secure on the ball. I don't really have a good picture of me doing that so I can't show you how I did it. You only need to glue around the hole, you don't need to glue the whole fabric to the head. But if you want the extra security then that might be a good idea. I cut some more fabric off after gluing but made sure that I left enough that it would touch the opening of the hole. I didn't want any cotton to show. Once I was finished with that, I put glue inside the hole and the quickly place it on the pole and pressed down for a few seconds.

Now, to cover the cut fabric edges, I used ribbon. I know, it doesn't look very nice. I think if I had wider ribbon it could have made it easier to cover the fabric and also look nicer. The ribbon I have is about 1 1/2 cm wide. I put glue on the fabric and wrapped the ribbon as best as I could to cover the fabric and also keep it looking nice.
Next, I used the pink roll of Washi tape and ribbon. This part is completely optional. I felt that I wanted my stand to have more color to it and this is what I did. The washi tape I used on the base of the wooden stand and the ribbon I used around the base, and on the pole of the stand. I used to hot glue gun to glue the ribbon on mind you. Hot as ever, and yes, I was still burning myself.
Then to finish it all off, I made a bow with the ribbon and I wasn't paying attention where I placed the glue and bow until after. The bow is facing the direction the end of the ribbon I put on the base! "That doesn't look great, but if you weren't looking that closely you wouldn't notice it" is what I'm telling myself. You can see it pretty well. Oh well. Inshallah the next one I make I won't make the same mistake.
This is the end of my very first pictorial and I have to say, I am so tired. I didn't realize how much time It'd take to get this tutorial made. But alhamdulillah I have made the hat stand and was able to share it with the world. I hope that this tutorial was helpful to everyone who reads it and if you have any questions or suggestions please let me know.
This is it! Was this easy to read? Did you make your own hat stand? If you have your own blog, tell me in the comments below your blog's link and I will check it out!
